Luz Villagran, LPC, ACS
Taking the first step toward therapy is not easy. I have enjoyed being a therapist for the past 20 years because I love to help people. I identify the person’s strengths, greatness and uniqueness to guide them in the journey toward their goal in a supportive and nurturing manner. In our work together its important to build trust and know that you are not going to be judged. I will teach you the skills that will empower you in reaching your goals.
As a mother of two neurodivergent kids, I know how important it is to have the support and guidance to manage the complexities that being a special needs parent brings. I have had the privilege to work in the NJ Children System of Care for the past 20 years, where I have learned all the resources and treatment options available for children with diverse needs.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of NJ and I am an Approved Clinical Supervisor. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
My professional experience consists of working in a variety of settings including: residential, in-home therapy, group practice and care management. My clinical areas of specialty include: anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, autism, trauma and prenatal/postpartum challenges.
My background includes a diverse range of tools that allow me to work with individuals that have unique needs. I use the Nurtured Heart Approach because I focus on a person’s positive strengths. This has provided a strong foundation for family work. I am OutCare certified as culturally competent in the care of the LGBTQ+ community. I am proud of being able to serve the Spanish speaking families and other cultures that are similar in their beliefs.
I strongly believe that everyone has different needs and in order to help many, an eclectic approach is most beneficial as it provides individualized services.
